Let the Discussion Begin   Previous   Next    6/1/2009 12:49 PM    Mark Goldsher Joined: 8/22/2007 Posts: 11 Let the Discussion Begin  As a consequence of the June 6th OFA Health Care Event at my home, I have attempted to educate myself on the issue of health care reform, and I can tell you that I am more confused than ever. There are many persuasive and conflicting solutions and argument from all parties involved, including the health care consumer (all of us), to health care provides, physicians, nurses, hospitals, health care services managers, economists that study the issue, politicians, and others. In an effort to present resources that our community may find helpful in deciding how to support the coming legislative attempts to reform health care, I will post on our Health Care Reform Page some of the more interesting sources of information for your review.  This will not an exhaustive list - but there is plenty of food for thought among the links.  I invite everyone to post links to articles, web sites and blogs as well as to set out your thoughts and concerns here.  Let’s have a discussion about one of the most important and challenging issues that face us today! -Mark Goldsher  6/7/2009 11:06 AM    Mark Goldsher Joined: 8/22/2007 Posts: 11 Re: Let the Discussion Begin  I just posted an article authored by Robert Reich "How Pharma & Insurance Intend To Kill the Public Option" which expresses concerns that frightens me into thinking that the Public Option may not see the light of day.  I posted it on the Wheatland HRC Page: http://www.wheatlanddemocrats.org/HealthCareReform/tabid/1479/Default.aspx When we discussed the effectiveness of a national OFA or Howard Dean's Stand With Dean phonebanking campaign to try to influence the debate in Washington, I didn't realize that such a campaign should start today.  Reich's last paragraph is a call to action: "This is it, folks. The concrete is being mixed and about to be poured. And after it's poured and hardens, universal health care will be with us for years to come in whatever form it now takes. Let your representative and senators know you want a public option without conditions or triggers -- one that gives the public insurer bargaining leverage over drug companies, and pushes insurers to do what they've promised to do. Don't wait until the concrete hardens and we've lost this battle." But may be too late!?!
