Wheatland Democrats Forums  National Issues  Election 2008  HOME OWNERS' ASSOCIATIONS AND SIGNS   Previous   Next    10/22/2008 12:37 PM  saucier 6 posts HOME OWNERS' ASSOCIATIONS AND SIGNS  Yesterday I got a letter from my HOA demanding that I take down yard signs or face fines and liens.  I am a lawyer with a significant practice litigating first amendment and privacy issues, so I know the issues.  I would like to see Illinois enact legislation prohibiting HOAs from engaging in this sort of behavior, as is the case in states such as Texas, Arizona, California and others.  I will be raising this issue with our elected state officials and I would like to get a picture of how prevelant (or not) this sort of bullying is right before an election.  Has anyone else been told to take their signs down?  Please let me know - you can e-mail me at bsaucier@wheatlanddemocrats.org. Thanks Brian Saucier - Pct 38 Committeeman  10/22/2008 3:16 PM  James Nagy 7 posts Re: HOME OWNERS' ASSOCIATIONS AND SIGNS  Brian, Ashbury HOA also has similar rules about signs.  We cannot put out any political signs until the week before, and they must be down the day after the election.  If you make any progress or need any support we would happy to jump into the fray with you on this issue.
