As we begin a new year, and celebrate this past fall's victories, we want to also outline our plans for 2009. This year we intend to be much more aggressive in recruitment of new members, pro-active in serving our larger communities, and making our group more relevant to the citizens of Wheatland township.
This meeting will allow us one more chance to celebrate the election and inauguration of President Barack Obama. Please join us as we honor this historic moment in our country's history.

Make the local candidates work for your vote Sunday, January 25, 2009. Election season has begun in earnest.
If you get a chance to talk to any of the multitude of candidates when they knock on your door or make a formal presentation at your social club or home owner's association meeting, do it.
Some of these are your neighbors or co-workers. Others you may have read or heard about; some are complete strangers.
But all of them would like your vote, so make them earn it. You owe it to yourself.

President Obama's 1st Weekly Address
In his first weekly address since being sworn in as the 44th president of the United States, President Barack Obama discusses how the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan will jump-start the economy.
"This is not just a short-term program to boost employment," he said. "It's one that will invest in our most important priorities like energy and education; health care and a new infrastructure that are necessary to keep us strong and competitive in the 21st century."
The Administration is still working with Congress to refine the plan, but in the address, President Obama lays out the key priorities. He goes into detail, noting that the plan will update our electric grid by laying more than 3,000 miles of transmission lines; weatherize 2.5 million homes; protect health insurance for more than 8 million Americans in danger of losing their coverage; secure 90 major ports; renovate 10,000 schools; and triple the number of science fellowships.

President Obama beckons friend Larry Walsh to Washington for inauguration
Thursday, January 22, 2009
Will County Executive Larry Walsh was a late arrival to the Illinois Senate in 1997. The Elwood farmer was brand new to Springfield's legislative scene when he was appointed in March to fill the seat vacated by the resignation of Joliet lawyer Tom Dunn.
"To this day, I still have the image of this young man coming up to my desk in the Senate," Walsh said. "He was a young, tall, lanky guy with a toothy smile and he came up to shake my hand and introduce himself.
