Message from our Party Chairman

Dear Friends:

On behalf of the Democratic Party of Wheatland Township I want to welcome you to our website.  We seek to provide timely information on a variety of current issues so that you have a one-stop source of Democratic resources.

I want to thank all of you who voted on February 2nd.  We would have liked to see much greater participation in this important primary, but we are thankful to those of you who took the time and exercised this important right we all share as Americans.

The Wheatland Township Democrats intend to be very active this year.  We always are looking for volunteers and people interested in getting more involved in our local community.  We always are in need of funds to support our efforts.  If you are interested in donating to your local Democatic Party, donate online.  Your financial support allows us to continue to advance Democratic politics in the suburbs.

Please enjoy your visit and feel free to contact me with comments, suggestions, or questions.

Sincerely,

Nick Palmer
Chairman -- Democratic Party of Wheatland Township

- Dick Durbin's hardball game -

3/8/2010 By Democratic Party of Wheatland Township

Democrats are hungry for a hardball strategy against a resurgent Republican Party, and Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin is positioning himself as a leading aggressor — a move that could help him in a potential run for majority leader.

- Rasmussen vs. Everybody Else -

3/8/2010 By Democratic Party of Wheatland Township

On the generic ballot question, in any given timeframe, Rasmussen  always  has the most pro-Republican results. Every. Single. Time. Without fail.

- Krugman: An Irish Mirror -

3/8/2010 By Democratic Party of Wheatland Township

Everyone has a theory about the financial crisis. These theories range from the absurd to the plausible — from claims that liberal Democrats somehow forced banks to lend to the undeserving poor (even though Republicans controlled Congress) to the belief that exotic financial instruments fostered confusion and fraud. But what do we really know?

- 2010: The tide is turning -

3/5/2010 By Democratic Party of Wheatland Township

At this point, Democrats are still poised to suffer setbacks in November, but no chamber will change hands. Still, Republicans have so convinced themselves of their epic victory against "socialism," that even incremental gains will shatter them. Their expectations have been set so high, aided by Cook and other analysts like him jumping the gun, that meeting them is an impossibility.

- Naperville Council still working to balance budget --

3/2/2010 By Democratic Party of Wheatland Township

The Naperville City Council picked through the numbers again Monday night. In anticipation of a vote on new taxes for the city at tonight's regular meeting, the council held another budget workshop to attempt to close remaining gaps. The budget for Fiscal Year 2011, which begins May 1, began with a $14.1 million gap that was reduced through cuts and personnel reductions to $5.5 million. Three proposed taxes and fees, a gas tax, a refuse fee, and a shift in funding from the city's Cultural Fund to the General Fund would close that gap to $1 million.

- Ethics tussle prompts re-examination of reform fight --

3/1/2010 By Democratic Party of Wheatland Township

SPRINGFIELD - A year ago, new Gov. Pat Quinn's reform commission was traveling the state with former federal prosecutor Pat Collins at the helm, building a head of steam behind its push to overhaul the state's political engine by limiting campaign donations and a series of other good government ideals. But ethics reform quickly ran aground at the Capitol. Political observers say the commission's idealism collided with political reality, and reality won. The high-profile rejection of many of the commission's provisions was stunning to followers who hoped Collins, best known for putting former Gov. George Ryan behind bars for corruption, would be able to bulldog the reforms through the General Assembly.

- RINO hunters can't speak bipartisan --

2/28/2010 By Democratic Party of Wheatland Township

The RINO hunt is back on and the coveted trophy is Scott Brown. Inevitably and predictably, the new senator from Massachusetts - Mr. 41, Mr. I-Drive-A-Truck, tea party poster dude - has disappointed his base by, alas, representing his constituents. It's the purity test all over again; only this time, the stakes are high and the weird are turning seriously pro.

- Free rides for seniors must end now --

2/28/2010 By Democratic Party of Wheatland Township

Illinois House members are now on record when it comes to free public transportation rides for seniors. The question is how should voters look at that record? We believe they should be lauding the 18 legislators from the Daily Herald circulation area who voted to end this two-year perk perpetuated by former Gov. Rod Blagojevich and seriously question the 11 who voted against it.

- Ill. Democrats looking for new candidate --

2/27/2010 By Democratic Party of Wheatland Township

SPRINGFIELD -- Illinois Democrats embarrassed by the nomination of Scott Lee Cohen as lieutenant governor are accepting applications to replace the disgraced candidate. State party chairman Michael Madigan said Friday the state central committee wants to hear from people interested in running for the No. 2 post with Gov. Pat Quinn in the fall election. People may provide information about their qualifications on the party's Web site. State central committee members -- two from each of the state's 19 congressional districts -- will decide which candidates address them at a later meeting.
