State lawmaker to sponsor concussion legislation proposed by Naperville students

A local state representative will sponsor concussion legislation advocated by two Naperville high school students.

State Rep. Stephanie Kifowit said she will work with Neuqua Valley juniors Rekha Iyer and Jash Desai, both of Naperville, in drafting a bill that better defines the procedures schools take to identify, confirm and reintegrate students with traumatic brain injuries back into an academic environment.

The push for change is a reaction to the challenges Iyer experienced when dealing with a concussion.

Naperville manager to review consolidation of Naper Settlement, library and city

Naperville city officials looking to cut costs will study whether Naper Settlement, Naperville Public Library and the city government can share administrative offices such as finance or human resources.

Naperville City Council members recently advised City Manager Doug Krieger's office to look at whether human resources, finance, information technology and communications departments can be consolidated.

"We have three entities, all of which get a paycheck from the City of Naperville, with three separate employee policies and sets of policies. Should that change or does it make sense? We don't know the answer to that yet," Krieger said. "Whenever we have the opportunity to standardize and simplify, it always seems like that's a great thing and that is something that we are going to be evaluating."
